John Baldwin

Playwright/Librettist

Musical Creator

I’ve enjoyed an interesting and varied professional life.

After college and military service as a Navy UDT/Seal, there was a law degree and MBA, the practice of law privately and as general counsel, real estate development and management, and ultimately being an entrepreneur starting new businesses - often later sold to giants like The Gillette Company and Zurich Insurance Group.

All were most rewarding experiences, to be sure, but not nearly as challenging and fun as being a playwright. I have always been a fan of plays and musicals particularly relevant to older audiences. It has been fun to now apply my diverse background to being a playwright and creator of works that can bring joy and laughter to others.

I have created two Musicals:

THE COPYCANTS CONCERT which was recently produced in New York City by Manhattan Repertory Theatre.

ASCENDING which is currently seeking its first production.

More info on each of these Musicals can be found on the MUSICALS page of this website.

Creating these Musicals have brought me great joy.

Family

"A comedian quipped that: “Happiness is having a large, loving, caring family in another city.” Amusing, but so untrue. As someone who traveled away on business a lot, I always missed those at or near home. Then, when most of the kids and grand-kids grew up and moved elsewhere to their separate lives, I so regretted my earlier absences. Visiting them now is a joy, but time already lost is unrecoverable."
